Back side: The LaForge one-room school house was enlarged with a wing in the late 1930s to accommodate children moving into the area because of the Farm Security Administration's LaForge Project to help displaced sharecropper families. The design of this school is fairly typical of others in the county but unlike the Higgerson School has a bell tower.
Back side: The LaForge Colored Shcool in the late 1930s. The teacher is standing on the porch with her students. Due to segregation, this one-room school was one of many in New Madrid County that educated black children in rural areas.
